Islam is a complete way of life. It is guidance provided by God for all mankind, it covers all things people do in their lifetime.
The teaching of Islam is that there is only one God (Allah).
There are over a billion followers mainly throughout large parts of Asia and Africa.
Islam acknowledges the origins from the time of Adam. They believe the God of Judaism and Christianity are the same as Allah but men have corrupted the teachings of these religions.
The original teachings of the two religions are exactly the same as what is found in Islam today. It views the Jewish Torah and the Christian Gospel as Allah’s revelations to these pre- Islamic people who have misinterpreted it.
The Holy Qu’ran is the final revelation, which clarifies and supersedes all Allah’a revelations prior to Islam.
The Holy Qu’ran mentions 25 Prophets of Allah including Abraham, Mosses and Jesus.
Muslims do not recognises Jesus as the Son of God however they do recognise him as a messenger of God.
The most important messenger is Muhammad who Angel Gabriel brought God’s revelations to he was the last and the greatest prophet.
The Holy Qu’ran names and recognises the scrolls of Abraham, the Torah of Mosses, the Pham’s of David and the Gospel of Jesus as the books revealed by God.
The Holy Qu’ran is universally known as the sacred book of Islam. It is the focal point of all Muslims and is regarded as the uncreated word of God, written on golden tablets in Paradise.
For Muslims, the Holy Qu’ran is the supreme authorities for Islam however there are other written traditions, which play a significant part in the religious life.
Hadith (sunna) are the traditions of Muhammad’s words and actions which are a source of authority in Islamic lawmaking.
Sharia body of law for the Muslim community which derives from the Qu’ran the sunna and other sources.
The sharia is the totality of religious, political, social, domestic and private life.
The sharia is primarily meant for all Muslims but also applies to a certain degree to non – Muslim living in a Muslim country.
The regulations of the sharia can be divided into two elements worship/ritual duties and juridical/political institutions.
The sharia has very little importance these days in most Muslim societies who are influenced by Western World except those who have gone through a phase of Islamization. It has much more importance on the family.
